When a hotel is a member of the prestigious Small Luxury Hotels group, you know you'll be in safe hands thanks to their impeccable standards and commitment to keeping the character of the hotel intact, while ensuring discerning guests are treated like royalty. The Minos Beach Art Hotel is proud to feature its SLH seal and so it should be, as this is a very special property indeed.
Luxury hotels Crete we know what you want to know
Located just outside of the town of Aghios Nikolaos - a picturesque place set on the coast and filled with cafes, restaurants, art galleries and traditional shops, making it ideal to while away several mornings - the Minos Beach Hotel has 129 rooms distributed throughout the grounds but instead of being hidden away in a huge main building with a view of the sea, the vast majority of the rooms are 20 seconds away from the sea! Step out your door, take a few steps and you'll be strolling along the paved promenade which encircles the bay. It's easy to find privacy too, as there are small jetties with two sunbeds, little alcoves where you can relax or you can continue on to the main beach where sunbeds and shades await. But to spend your stay only in your room or with your eyes closed on the beach is to do the hotel a disservice, as there is so much here to see.

Dotted around the lush, green grounds of the hotel are many sculptures, some rather more obvious than others. One cannot miss the windmill or the man made from rope supporting a beam overlooking the sea for example, but other more subtle works only become apparent after your eyes have become accustomed to finding something new and interesting around every corner. Many hotels have clever and stylish artistic touches throughout, so much so that we tend not to truly notice them other than registering they are pleasing to the eye, but the Minos Beach Art Hotel has a true collection of works which benefit from being examined and discussed, consequently enhancing your stay.

The hotel is host to a biannual Art Symposium, where artists from all over the world are invited to display their work and at each show, the hotel selects its favourites to become a permanent fixture in the grounds, so don't be surprised to see new additions each time you visit! In fact, whether you are interested in art or not, whiling away hours walking around the hotel is so much more than simple relaxation, as it holds so many treasures! Now how many other hotels on Crete can you say that about?

To better understand the ambience at the Minos Beach hotel, take a moment after you arrive to observe the photographs depicting the hotel back in the 1960s. Taken on and around the set of Jules Dassin's 1957 film He Who Must Die, these show the the hotel and its surroundings as it was then and aside from a considerable increase in foliage, structurally little has changed. This traditional atmosphere is everywhere you go and no matter how much modernisation has been done, you get the strangest feeling that although everyone else wants to move on from the times in the photos, the hotel is happy to retain as much of that time as possible.
