As you drive up the steep approach to the Creta Maris, you'll first pass the Terra Maris on your right, before rounding a corner and being presented with the impressive main entrance to the Creta. To ensure there is no confusion, the Creta Maris is an all-inclusive resort-style hotel and the Terra Maris is located next to an exceptionally large, purpose built convention centre and therefore not really the place for an exciting or relaxing holiday! No, for that you'll definately need to stay at the Creta Maris.

Like much of Crete, if your stay is a week or longer, we highly recommend hiring a car so you can explore some of this beautiful island. Staying at the Creta Maris, we would say a car would be a distinct advantage for every stay, as not only is it located on a hill, making the walk into nearby Hersonissos a challenge that would very quickly become wearing, but Crete's natural beauty is to be found the further away from this centrally located hotel you travel.

If, however, you're traveling with your family, it may be difficult to get them out and about, thanks to the Asterias Children's Club which is a veritable treasure trove of fun and games for your kids! But enough about them, what about the adults! The Creta Maris was one of the first large hotels on the island and was built back in the 70s. It's home to a massive 534 rooms, with 215 of them being newly built bungalows, and takes its design cues from that classic monasterial horseshoe shape, where room entrances face each other across a courtyard. The rooms inside the main building are available with a garden or sea view and are what we would call traditional, in that the furniture is mainly wooden and the decor is a combination of safe creams and whites. If you're looking for something a little more interesting and modern, then you must choose a bungalow. These have been decorated with flair and attention to detail, using interesting, modern furnishings and colourful fabrics. The bathrooms are also of a far higher quality, especially the bungalows benefitting from a free-standing circular bathtub! Finally, there are a selection of Junior Suites and three special suites - the Suite on the Rocks, the Ambassador and the Presidential - all with additional feature such as Jacuzzi's, office space and in the case of the Presidential, a gym and sauna too.

Elsewhere in the hotel you'll find the Thalasso Spa, which offers many sea water based health and beauty treatments along with a sauna, Jacuzzi and fitness centre. For a more active time, there are tennis courts and water sports, a selection of adult and children's pools and of course, the main sandy beach a few moments walk away from the main building. There are a total of six restaurants and a wide variety of bars including a Bowling bar where a game of bowling can be enjoyed!

While perhaps the Creta Maris is not the most luxurious hotel, the service if friendly and welcoming, however this being such a large property, if you're expecting boutique style personal attention, it's likely not to be forthcoming at the height of season. The central location is perfect for exploring the island and the children's club will keep your family happy too.
