After checking in, you'll be shown around the hotel before being taken to your room. The Royal Mare Village occupies an area of 90,000 square meters, so there will not only be plenty of land to explore during your stay, but plenty of space to ensure it never feels crowded. This was an unexpected benefit as even when at 100% capacity, the hotel never feels over-crowded or that you'll be tripping over other guests just walking to the restaurant. Of course, popular communal areas will be busy - the main restaurant and the pool for example, but as the hotel has two outdoor pools - one being very big - and a pool especially for children, a space can usually be found.

The best way to ensure a space by the pool at all times is to have your own. By selecting either the VIP Double Room or Junior Suite, you'll have the benefit of either a shared or private pool respectively. With a total of 341 rooms, you would expect another complex list of room types all differing by a square meter here and a living area there. This is not the case at the Royal Mare Village. In addition to the aforementioned VIP Double Rooms and Junior Suites, there are the standard garden view Double Rooms and the Sea View double rooms, plus a Junior Suite with a shared pool. They're all well appointed too; with tiled floors, colourful bedspreads and cushions, marble bathrooms and modern amenities. Rounding out the available rooms is a collection of super-luxurious suites, all with shared or private pools, multiple rooms and incredible sea views. The best thing about the accommodation at the Royal Mare Village? It never feels over the top, you just settle into high quality furniture and admire the classy decoration. Simply put, it feels like a home, and that's quite a recommendation.

So we have emphasized the excellent rooms and hinted that the Royal Mare is a perfect place to isolate yourself from the surrounding world, so one would rightly make the assumption the hotel caters mainly for couples. While this is true, there is also an excellent children's club and dedicated outdoor pool, so families will find plenty to occupy their little ones. The hotel also organise special event nights and daytime activities for adults too, however it must be stressed that everything like this is performed in such a way as to not disturb the wonderful peace and tranquility found at the Royal Mare - they really do want to please everyone. This is further evidenced by the attentive service, which is described as subtle and unobtrusive, but still to the level one expects from a deluxe hotel.
Away from the main building you'll find the Thalasso Spa, plus, Royal Mare hotel offers several restuarants for your dining pleasure too. We must recommend El Greco, which is a gorgeous traditional style Cretan restaurant with a cobbled floor and shaded by flowering shrubs, where fresh dishes are served using produce from the island - a great Greek experience! Finally there are several shops in the grounds and even a hair salon, so you really could spend your entire holiday right here if the mood takes you. And in all honesty, we don't think that's a bad thing at all!
