Kouros are the often lifesize statues of young men found all across Greece, dating back to the seventh century and in many cases depicting the god Apollo. The island of Delos, close to Mykonos island, holds two of the earliest examples of these impressive art forms from where the Kouros Hotel presumably took its name. We say presumably of course, as if there is one place on earth associated with chiseled male bodies, it's the island of Mykonos.

Built off the main coast road in the Tagoo Bay area just outside Mykonos Town, the Kouros hotel sits high on the cliff side and an elevator is provided for access to the reception from the car park! It doesn't stop there either, as once you've checked-in, many steps await if you have the luxury of a high room. Anyone coming to Mykonos from Santorini will laugh at the amount of steps, however if you've stepped off a plane from another destination, it may come as a bit of a surprise!

From this exalted position, the views across the Aegean are breathtaking, especially at sunset just before the island comes alive. If you plan on being a part of Mykonos' famed nightlife, Kouros is an excellent base as it's a ten minute walk into town or an extremely short taxi ride. Not staying in the centre of Mykonos town itself has the obvious advantage of avoiding too much noise and traffic through the night and there's no denying you have more space and arguably a better view from slightly outside of Chora itself. In our view, Kouros hotel and neighboring Cavo Tagoo boast the best spots on the island for this.

There are 35 rooms inside the Kouros hotel, 11 of which are elegant suites. The Standard rooms are small and we would recommend looking at the Deluxe rooms and above when planning your stay as not only do you get more space, but each has its own private balcony with the all-important sea view, which the Standard rooms cannot guarantee. If you select the Superior room type (one step below the Suites), you will be in for a pleasant surprise, as these were once full apartments which have been stripped of the kitchen and anything else unnecessary to create an very large living space.

Outside of your room, the beautiful pool area beckons, with its intricate exposed brickwork walls (which is a continuing theme throughout the Kouros hotel) and wealth of sun loungers are conveniently close to the pool bar for a refreshing cocktail or two. Also by the poolside is the Kouros restaurant where traditional Greek dishes are made to compliment the assortment of fine wines available. If you feel in need of some exercise there is a gym, but more importantly for you holiday is the Kouros spa where many exotic treatments await. The Kouros hotel in Mykonos is a very relaxed place and the same can be said of the service style, so there will be no following you around waiting for an order here.
