Platis Gialos is one of the best beaches on the island of Mykonos, with its soft sand, clear waters and many bars and restaurants along the promenade. Unlike other famed Mykonian beaches such as Paradise and Super Paradise, Platis Gialos does not have a constant 'party' atmosphere so it's easy to escape from pounding techno beats should you want to. This is not to say it's silent however, as many of the bars still play their own music, but it's more toned down than elsewhere.

Few hotels equal the Mykonos Palace's location, for it's on the beach. Walk from your room, through the open-air restaurant and the sand will be curling around your toes – it really is that close! The hotel makes the most of this too, as not only are there dedicated sun loungers and umbrellas for guests to rent, but there are plenty of watersports to enjoy too, including water-skiing, jet skis and tubing. It's worth noting that thanks to the bay's protection from the notorious Mykonos breeze, Platis Gialos also offers some of the best scuba diving on the island too.

There is certainly plenty of sporting fun to be had, but what about when the time comes to relax? The 50 rooms at the Mykonos Palace hotel are clean and comfortable, but don't expect anything out of the ordinary inside, as you'll have to look out of the window for that! The rooms are split into their categories based around their size and view, so we recommend at the minimum, taking one which looks across the beach and out to the islands in the distance – as it's truly amazing at sunset!
