At the Mykonos Theoxenia hotel you can find many hard lines and plenty of right angles, and it’s not what you would call pretty, but it’s certainly impressive and rather unusually used locally sourced stone and craftsman to build it. Today the outside has changed little and has been declared a nationally preserved property, but the inside was recently completely renovated. Interior designer Angelos Angelopoulos shunned the minimalist-style and clean white colours used by many of the hotel’s peers and instead took the daring decision to honour the Mykonos Theoxenia hotel past and inject some 60’s glam into the all-to-similar 00’s.

What’s been created needs a short while to sink in, as even the reception is an assault on the senses, making it difficult to know where to look first. What strikes you most about the Mykonos Theoxenia hotel is the amount of color that surrounds you. Beautiful as the white and blue combination that is so prevalent on Mykonos Island is, it’s refreshing to have a change and if you are going to have one, you may as well make it a major one. Greens, yellows, beiges, reds and browns fight for your retinas attention, alongside flashes of white and blue to maintain the connection with traditional Mykonos. Even the general restroom in reception is like nothing you have seen before, but I won’t go into detail as I don’t want to spoil the surprise!
