Standing almost alone on the cliff overlooking the picturesque bay of Agios Ioannis, the Saint John Hotel is one of the larger deluxe hotels to be found on Mykonos, with almost 150 rooms to its name. Agios Ioannis is a ten minute drive from the centre of Mykonos Town, so access to the majority of the bars and restaurants is good, however, unless you don't mind taking the bus or waiting for a taxi, a car makes good sense if staying here.

The closeness to the bustle of Hora is something which isn't very obvious on arrival, as it feels rather isolated, staring out across the Aegean from its hallowed spot. Truth is, another hotel is nearby and the village of Agios Ioannis is an easy walk away, but the breeze for which Mykonos is famed for whips away any sound – leaving just you and that incredible view. The walk to the village won't be needed for the token holiday exercise though, as the Saint John hotel with villas and spa occupies a massive 20,000 square metre plot of land, so be prepared for navigating narrow paths and a good few steps on your way around the complex.

If this sounds a little like a village in itself, you'd be right. Quite apart from the size, almost everything one could want can be found inside the walls of the Saint John Hotel. There is a little shop selling everything from bottled water to gifts, plus a traditional Greek cafe hidden away, where one can enjoy a frappe coffee during the day. Then there is a choice of no less than six restaurants and bars including Kalimera and Symposium, two Mediterranean restaurants with fantastic menus and equally fantastic views. For the rest of the day there is the pool bar Breeze and in the evening, the Au Bar piano bar makes a perfect spot to contemplate what to do the day after.
